Assessing the development of agricultural growing seasons and its impact on the lives and livelihoods of local populations enables the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ (WFP) to keep track of events and highlight situations of humanitarian concern.
Drawing on the skills and expertise of highly specialized staff, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳processes large amounts of weather and Earth Observation data into key indicators that are combined with additional information ¨C for example on environmental and socioeconomic factors ¨C into narrative reports.
These seasonal reports provide context and outline short to medium term perspectives for food security and livelihoods, in an accessible and ready to use format, helping ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳to develop intervention strategies before a crisis occurs.
The humanitarian implications of broader phenomena with far-reaching implications, such as El Ni?o, are analysed in specific thematic publications, which include a projection of the expected humanitarian response required.
