2023 was the hottest year ever recorded. A natural El Ni?o cycle added to the rising trend of global warming, resulting in more frequent and intense droughts, floods, and tropical cyclones. To mitigate these risks, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳activated Anticipatory Actions (AAs) in countries where the impact of El Ni?o was predicted to be especially severe, as well as in other countries worldwide. WFP¡¯s global AA portfolio amounted to US$70.75 million, including US$61.5 million of prearranged financing for forecast-based activations. This support from donors enabled the scale up of AA within global, regional and national disaster risk management, social protection and humanitarian systems. ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳also actively supported the positioning of AA in the global humanitarian, development and climate agendas throughout the year.
